PM Reaffirms Investment in Education and Healthcare Remains a Top Priority

(Siem Reap): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet reaffirmed that investment in education and healthcare will remain a top priority for the Royal Government under all circumstances, stressing that both sectors are fundamental to Cambodia's long-term development and competitiveness. The premier spoke on Tuesday (Jul. 21) at a graduation ceremony for students of Southeast Asia University in Siem Reap province. "Regardless of the circumstances, we must continue to pay attention to and invest in education and healthcare," he said. "We also welcome the participation of the private sector, both domestically and internationally. We want to strengthen education in Cambodia and integrate our education system with those around the world." He said the Royal Government remains committed to an open policy that encourages greater private-sector participation in education to improve quality and expand international integration. On healthcare, the prime minister highlighted the growing role of private healthcare providers, particularly in supporting the implementation of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF). He noted that public health facilities alone cannot fully meet the healthcare needs of the population, making stronger collaboration with the private sector essential to expanding access to quality healthcare services. Samdech Thipadei also commended the private sector for its contributions across all levels of education, from primary and higher education to technical and vocational education and training (TVET). He welcomed the expansion of TVET programmes to more private schools in partnership with the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, saying the initiative would create greater learning and employment opportunities for Cambodian youth. At the same time, the prime minister stressed that expanding the education sector must go hand in hand with improving quality. He said the quality of students and educational institutions is closely interconnected. Well-qualified graduates enhance the reputation of schools, while high-quality institutions reflect sustained investment and continuous development in Cambodia's education sector.=FRESH NEWS
