China Approves First Cambodian Bird's Nest Exporter

(Phnom Penh): China's General Administration of Customs (GAC) has approved Best Life Product Co., Ltd. as the first Cambodian company authorized to export bird's nest products to China. The approval, granted on 15 July 2026 and valid until 2031, marks a major milestone for Cambodia's bird's nest industry. Khmer Swiftlet Association President Suy Kokthean said the approval process is highly rigorous, requiring strict product traceability and hygiene standards. Although China opened its market to Cambodian bird's nest products in 2025, only one company has met all requirements so far. He added that the association hopes more Cambodian companies will receive approval from Chinese customs this year to export directly to China. "Cambodia is not facing exceptional challenges. Countries such as Vietnam and Malaysia follow similar procedures. Many first-time applicants fail because they do not fully understand Chinese customs requirements. When an application is rejected, we identify the shortcomings and adjust the technical specifications and standards to meet China's requirements. Once those conditions are fulfilled, approval can be obtained," he said. Best Life Chairwoman Wu Huizhen pledged that Best Life Product would continue improving product quality and hygiene standards, expand production capacity, and create more jobs for Cambodians. She also called on the government, relevant institutions, and investment partners to continue supporting the industry so Cambodian bird's nest products can develop into a nationally recognised brand with a stronger international presence. As of early 2026, Cambodia had nearly 1,000 registered bird's nest houses, with six companies referred to Chinese customs, but only Best Life has received export approval.=FRESH NEWS
