Egypt, WB probe boosting cooperation in power grid, renewable energy financing
Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Essmat on Sunday, July 19, 2026, discussed with World Bank (WB) delegation ways to strengthen cooperation on power grid development, renewable energy financing and financial sustainability.
This came during a video conference attended by Minister of Planning and Economic Development Ahmed Rostom .
The World Bank delegation was headed by Acting Global Director in the Finance, Competitiveness & Investment (FCI) Global Department of the World Bank Niraj Verma.
The meeting reviewed joint projects to support and upgrade Egypt’s unified power grid and expand its capacity to integrate renewable energy, as well as financing for a number of renewable electricity generation projects, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Electricity on Sunday.
The discussions covered proposals to establish a financial guarantee fund for infrastructure projects in the electricity and renewable energy sectors.
