The Odyssey draws huge audiences in Egypt

Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” has witnessed a massive turnout from Egyptian audiences since its release in Egyptian cinemas on July 15. Most theaters showing displayed “sold out” signs, and at a cinema in the Sheikh Zayed area IMAX theaters were often packed 24 hours before the showing. Egyptian audiences were particularly eager to reserve seats in IMAX theaters, the technology used by Christopher Nolan for the film, which provides a more immersive visual experience on the big screen. The film has also attracted audiences to standard and MX4D theaters, where it is being shown in most Egyptian cinema complexes. Tickets for MX4D and IMAX cost LE 200 each, while standard tickets cost LE 140. There are five IMAX screenings daily, along with five standard screenings and four MX4D screenings. The film, based on the ancient Greek Epic poem, follows Odysseus’s perilous journey home after the Trojan War. The film stars Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, and Jon Bernthal, and is based on the Greek epic, The Odyssey. The music for The Odyssey is also by Egyptian sound engineer Heba Kadry. She has provided mastering for more than 11 major international films, and is renowned for her talent in this field.
