Kenton Young critically injured in Belize River Valley shooting; two detained

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Police are investigating a shooting near the Mussel Creek Bridge that left 29-year-old Kenton Young of Bermudian Landing Village critically injured. The shooting occurred at around 10:25 p.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2026. Police said Young was travelling in his SUV when he was confronted by a man riding a motorcycle. The motorcyclist reportedly fired several shots at the vehicle, injuring Young. Young was transported for medical treatment and was listed in a critical but stable condition at the time of the police briefing. Investigators believe the shooting may be connected to an ongoing dispute involving individuals from Bermudian Landing and Lemonal villages. Two persons have been detained for questioning, while police are searching for a third individual. Initial public reports described the incident as a shooting in the Burrell Boom area before police clarified that it occurred near Mussel Creek Bridge. Young is also known within Belize’s cricket community and has previously been publicly identified as captain of the Belize National Cricket Team.
