Egypt, Montenegro seek closer economic ties, reaffirm support for two-state solution

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and Montenegro’s President Jakov Milatović agreed on Saturday to deepen economic and investment cooperation while discussing developments in the Middle East and other regional issues, according to the Egyptian presidency. The presidency said Milatović’s visit marked the first presidential trip to Egypt since the two countries established diplomatic relations following Montenegro’s independence in 2006. During talks in Cairo, Al-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, particularly in trade and investment, and exploring new opportunities for economic cooperation. He also welcomed the establishment of a parliamentary friendship group with Egypt in Montenegro as a step toward enhancing ties between the two countries. Milatović said Montenegro was keen to benefit from Egypt’s expertise in tourism, energy, and infrastructure. He highlighted the presence of successful Egyptian investments in Montenegro’s tourism sector and expressed his country’s interest in attracting additional Egyptian investment across other industries. He also praised Egypt’s efforts to combat illegal migration. The two leaders also exchanged views on regional developments, with Al-Sisi outlining Egypt’s efforts to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East and stressing the importance of resolving regional crises through political and diplomatic means. He also called for the United States and Iran to reach a comprehensive and lasting agreement and reaffirmed Egypt’s support for the sovereignty and security of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, while condemning what he described as “unjustified attacks” against Arab countries. On the Palestinian issue, Al-Sisi reiterated Egypt’s support for a two-state solution based on international legitimacy, rejected any displacement of Palestinians from their land, and called for the reconstruction of Gaza alongside the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid. Milatović expressed support for the two-state solution and commended Egypt’s role in promoting regional peace and stability, saying the two countries shared a commitment to resolving international crises through dialogue and diplomacy rather than the use of force. The two presidents agreed to intensify political consultations, expand economic and investment cooperation, and strengthen bilateral relations across a range of sectors.
