Local artists bring colour to EVA’s 50th anniversary palate

EVA International has announced selected artists for the Platforms Commissions programme for 2027, including a number of local talents. The year marks EVA’s 50th anniversary, with a programme that aims to reflect on key artistic moments and political changes in Ireland over the past five decades. The selected artists will work with EVA to present ambitious new commissions across Limerick from August to October next year. This follows an open call process for artists to respond to ideas and histories surrounding  the 1996 EVA presentation of Félix González-Torres’s Untitled (America). Among the shortlisted Platform Commissions artists is Shirani Bolle, a Limerick-based artist working across performance, film, sculpture, sound, and textiles. She investigates the role of women in domestic and media contexts utilising established tropes to consider patriarchal conceptions of femininity. Her recent work includes a solo exhibition at Sirius Arts Centre (2026) and participation in Ormston House’s Artist Affiliate Scheme (2026). Artist Shirani Bolle. Mícheál Keating is another Limerick media artist working across sound, image, and text. His practice explores the politics of place and memory. His most recent project Live Landscapes/Tírdhreacha Beo (2022–2025) resulted in a self-published book/CD and solo exhibition at Spacecraft Limerick. He is also a member of the well-known Limerick band Bleeding Heart Pigeons. EVA is Ireland’s Biennial of Contemporary Art and takes place every two years across venues in Limerick city and beyond. It was founded in 1977 and remains one of the longest running visual arts organisations in Ireland, with a history of working with some of the world’s most influential artists and curators.
