Mike and Alanna go from Kilmallock to Kilimanjaro

A LIMERICK father and daughter will be taking on the challenge of a lifetime in the name of supporting an important community organisation. This September, Mike and Alanna Murphy will go from Kilmallock to Kilamanjaro as they attempt to scale Africa’s highest summit in aid of CareBright in Bruff. Carebright delivers support services to older people, helping them maintain independence and quality of life. It also provides a place for other people to gather, connect, and combat social isolation. The journey is partly inspired by Mike’s mother, Bridie, who is battling dementia and benefits from CareBright’s services. The Limerick father and daughter have been training diligently for the journey, which will be Alanna’s second time to complete the feat, having scaled Kilimanjaro previously in 2024. They will also be hosting a number of five and 10k walks throughout August to allow people to get in on the journey locally to. “This challenge is the biggest undertaking of my life. I am inspired by the people living with dementia, including my beloved mother Bridie, and the daily battles they must overcome as well as the care and love provided by the incredible people at CareBright,” Mike said. “To be undertaking the Kilimanjaro climb with my daughter Alanna will be a very special journey.” Alana added: “We hope people will get behind us and help support the incredible work being done locally.
