PM on rising crime: “We have lost discipline”

By Zoila Palma:  Prime Minister John Briceno says that his administration is always concerned about crime. “We had the SOE I think it has been successful, most of it has calmed down. But this now is between individuals and sometimes it is difficult to control, you can’t put a police man in every corner, but the minute you turn, somebody, if you want to give trouble and that is what is happening. I think I have been saying this for a long time but I don’t think we are good parents as we were. Few generations ago I always use this example as kid I called a lady a white roach, just mischief and my father found out about it and when I got home he gave me a whipping because you don’t do that. Today when you call out a child to a parent they want to get upset with you. And so we have lost that kind of discipline within our communities and that is what happens they then become adults,” the Prime Minister told 7News Belize. The Prime Minister said that it really takes a village to raise a child because that is the way the older generations were raised. “You couldn’t do anything out there because by the time you get home your parents know and you would get into trouble,” he said.
