Trump says U.S.-Iran talks going ‘very well’, possible deal could come within days
U.S. President Donald Trump said negotiations between Washington and Tehran are progressing “very well” and that an agreement could be reached in the coming days.
Speaking at the White House, Trump said a deal was not yet certain but could potentially be finalized by the end of the week.
“It could happen, or it might not happen, but if it does, it will probably be over the weekend,” Trump said, according to Al Jazeera.
He added that “anything can happen” in negotiations with Iran but described the current atmosphere of the talks as positive.
The comments come despite caution from Abbas Araghchi, who recently said communication between Tehran and Washington had not been cut off but that no significant breakthrough had yet been achieved.
The negotiations follow weeks of heightened tensions between the United States and Iran after military confrontations in the Gulf region. Both sides have since signaled support for diplomacy, although major disagreements remain over Iran’s nuclear programme, sanctions relief and regional security issues.
Meanwhile, the U.S. House of Representatives has voted to limit Trump’s authority to launch military action against Iran without congressional approval. The measure, backed by Democrats and a small number of Republicans, reflects growing concern in Congress about the risk of another conflict in the Middle East.
Although the resolution is unlikely to become law because Trump is expected to veto it, analysts say the vote highlights divisions in Washington over Iran policy and the use of presidential war powers.
A successful agreement between Washington and Tehran could help preserve the fragile ceasefire reached after recent hostilities and reduce tensions across the region, where concerns remain high over the possibility of renewed conflict involving Iran, Israel and U.S. forces.
