Jury sworn in for trial of Limerick man and woman accused of murder

A JURY has been sworn in for a trial of three people, including a man and woman with addresses in Limerick, who are accused of the murder of a man in County Kerry. The victim, Gerard Kennelly, a 36-year-old father-of-one from north Kerry, was found with fatal stab injuries at Knockanure village, near Listowel, in the early hours of Monday, May 27, 2024. The three accused are Kieran Brady, mid 30s, of Upper Athea, County Limerick; Abigail Lynch (24), of Glenview Terrace, Limerick, formerly Woodview Place, Tarbert, County Kerry; and Kane Hornyak (29), of Doon Road, Ballybunion, County Kerry. All three face a single charge contained in the State’s Book of Evidence that they did each murder Mr Kennelly, contrary to common law. Today (Wednesday), each of the three accused persons stood in the court at their arraignment and entered “not guilty” pleas to the charges. In court, Ms Lynch was represented by senior counsel Mark Lynam and Caroline O’Connell BL, instructed by Eimear Griffin, Padraig J O’Connell Solicitors, Killarney. Kieran Brady was represented in court by senior counsel Bernard Condon and Richard Liston BL, instructed by Fahy Bambury Solicitors, Dublin. Kane Hornyak was represented in court by senior counsel Seamus Clarke and Katie O’Connell BL, instructed by solicitor, Padraig J O’Connell. A jury of six men and six women were sworn in at the Central Criminal Court, sitting in Limerick, to hear the case before Mr Justice Paul Burns. The jury was told the trial could last up to three weeks. Details of the case were not disclosed in court and the jury was told the trial would get underway properly, next Friday, June 5.
