Driver found travelling well over speed limit on city outskirts

A DRIVER was caught travelling well over the speed limit by Gardaí this past bank holiday Monday (June 1). Gardaí were carrying out an enhanced roads policing operation over the June Bank Holiday weekend to combat speeding and road safety violations, with 72 road deaths recorded across Ireland so far this year alone. While conducting high-visibility checkpoints, Gardaí detected over 4,000 speeding offences over the bank holiday weekend. On Monday, Gardaí clocked a driver on the N18 in Ballinacurra Weston travelling 115km/h in a 100 zone. Earlier in the weekend, another driver was spotted on the N21, Abbeyfeale East, County Limerick, was found travelling 93km/h in a 50 zone. In the same period, more than 400 drivers were detected holding a mobile phone or not wearing a seatbelt.
