Gardaí spot driver travelling almost twice legal limit in long weekend speeding clampdown

A DRIVER in County Limerick was caught travelling at almost twice the legal limit over the bank holiday weekend. Gardaí were carrying out an enhanced roads policing operation over the June Bank Holiday weekend to combat speeding and road safety violations, with 70 road deaths recorded across Ireland so far this year alone. While conducting high-visibility checkpoints, Gardaí detected over 2,250 speeding offences in the first three days of the operation. One driver, spotted on the N21, Abbeyfeale East, County Limerick, was found travelling 93km/h in a 50 zone. In the same period, more than 270 drivers were detected holding a mobile phone or not wearing a seatbelt.
