Salah returns with assist in Liverpool win, Arsenal ride luck to beat Wolves
Premier League leader Arsenal rode its luck on Saturday with a dramatic 2-1 win at home to bottom of the table Wolverhampton Wanderers that assures it maintains its lead at the top of the table, no matter what happens on Sunday, reported Xinhua.
Anyone expecting an easy win against the side that is rock bottom of the Premier League with just two points all season, would have been disappointed as Wolverhampton mounted a brave rearguard action.
It took a stroke of luck to put Arsenal ahead in the 70th minute, when visiting goalkeeper, Sam Johnstone pushed Bukayo Saka's cross onto the post, only for it to bounce into the net off his back.
It still looked as if Wolverhampton would sneak a point when Tolu Arokodare headed them level in the 90th minute, but there was heartbreak for Wolves and three vital points for Arsenal deep in injury time when Yerson Mosquera flicked the ball into his own net as he tried to clear Saka's cross in the fourth minute of added time.
Liverpool won 2-0 at home to Brighton, with two goals from Hugo Ekitike, who opened the scoring in the first minute.
Mohamed Salah came on for the injured Joe Gomez after just 26 minutes and set up the second goal on the hour as he prepares to fly to the African Cup of Nations.
Chelsea beat Everton 2-0 with both of the goals coming in the first half, as Cole Palmer opened the scoring after a pass from Malo Gusto, who added the second himself on the stroke of halftime.
Fulham won 3-2 away to Burnley to take a big step away from the relegation zone, while inflicting a seventh consecutive league defeat on its rival.
Harry Wilson set up Emile Smith Rowe for Fulham's opener after just nine minutes and after Lesley Ugochukwu levelled for Burnley in the 21st minute, Wilson was on hand to set up Calvin Bassey for Fulham's second before halftime and then score the third himself in the 58th minute.
Oliver Sonne pulled a goal back for Burnley with five minutes left to play, but Fulham held on for all three points.
